Revlon Photoready Airbrush Review: Kat’s Opinion

image

I recently purchased Revlon’s Photoready Airbrush foundation in 030 Nude. Before I tell you what I think of it, let me say that Revlon is one of my favorite cosmetic brands, sometimes even over high end brands.

That being said, not only am I disappointed in this foundation, I am horrified as well!

The first time I tried to use it, I had used a new moisturizer and primer at the beginning of my routine. I was waiting for my primer to dry, anxiously waiting to try this intriguing new product. I loved the concept of it and couldn’t wait for my face to be magically transformed into a perfect canvas.

When my primer was ready, I took the lid off the foundation. The pump thing is odd and I noted that it was difficult to press. It was so difficult that, when I finally managed to press hard enough, it was to hard and a whole bunch of product shot out onto the back of my hand.

I dont know how to describe the consistency other than very foamy… as soon as it comes out of the can it expands like a very watery,  bubbly mousse. It then quickly started to dissipate,  the air coming out of the product I guess. This left a very thin liquid. Ok, I can deal with that. I soon discovered that a little goes a long way.

After finishing my makeup routine, I realized I had been noticing a really disgusting smell. I can not describe the smell other than it was gross, almost like spoiled milk mixed with a dirty diaper????

I was in a rush to get Teenage Boys to practice, so we rushed out the door. The whole drive there and back I was tortured with the stench of my FACE! Trying to be logical, I thought maybe the new moisturizer,  primer,  and foundation might have had some weird chemical reaction with each other.

I promptly removed all makeup and then washed my face. Didn’t think about it for the rest of the day.

Next day: I decided to put the same foundation on, but this time I would put it directly onto my freshly washed face.
When I pulled the cap off the can, this is what I saw:

Gross, huh. I went ahead and pumped some out, dabbing it onto my forehead. Guess what. The stench was this foundation, even stronger than before.

This was by far the WORST foundation experience I have ever had. Revlon… why??? I’m so sad to have to return this product after being so excited about it.  😦

Have any of you tried the Photoready Airbrush foundation? If so, did you have the same problem? Did I just get a bad batch?

Thank you for reading as always, Kat

Revlon’s Nearly Naked: Kat’s First Impression

So. I just did a YouTube video of my first impression: Revlon’s Nearly Naked foundation! However, I can not get it to upload onto my Asus tablet 😦 All the photos from my camera downloaded, but I guess the videos aren’t compatible or something. I was really disappointed because one of the reasons I bought this specific tablet was to download photos and videos. Maybe there is an app I can download or something for the videos. Sigh.
Anyway, the foundation! I got it in the shade “Nude” #030. My first impression was pretty good! I think I’m going to really like it a lot. I usually don’t do well when picking out drug store foundation and have to return them most of the time to try a different color. I think I got it right on the money this time! And speaking of money, this foundation doesn’t take much of it which is always a plus. It was $9.99 at my local Walgreens and there was also a BOGO 50% off sale for Revlon products!

Have you tried this foundation yet? Have you used the Urban Decay Naked foundation? I haven’t but I would like to know how they compare with each other. Kat

Look What I Got!!!

20130109-192145.jpg

I just got home from a Dr. Appointment and Walgreens. While picking up my scripts, I noticed the Nearly Naked display. I chose the color “Nude”.
It cost $9.99 but I was able to use my rewards points on it! Also, all Revlon products were BOGO half off!!! I am going to do a first impression review on my YouTube channel. My YouTube user name is also Addercatter. Have you tried this yet? What do you think? Kat

Influenster Cosmo Vox Box Review by Addercatter! (Finally)

So. I have fallen far behind on my Birchbox and Vox Box reviews. Influenster will probably never send me anything ever again 😦  Hopefully that’s not the case, and I am going to try to redeem myself now. Better late than never, right?

image

These are the items from the Cosmo Vox Box I received uh… last month… ahem, anyway… I was pleased with each item.

The Ghirardelli Sea Salt & Caramel chocolate bar was HEAVENLY. Seriously, the best chocolate bar EVER.

A generous sample of the new fragrance, Red, by Bath & Body Works was included. This has become my FAVORITE scent. It has a sweet scent, but also smells a bit spicy. What really sets it apart, for me anyway, is the delicate combination that smells fresh, feminine, and… if emotions had scents, this would smell happy!

There were two pens included in this vox box. They are a new style, I believe by Bic, but I threw the packaging away on accident 😦
Anyway, my husband took the black one and my teenage son took the orange one. The ink is true to the color of the outside of the pen. They also have erasers, which work really well according to my son. My husband says the pen writes super smooth and has a c
omfortable rubber grip. Erasable pens? Count me in!

My favorite part of this Cosmo Vox Box by Influenster was the Venus Razor. Included was a refill, the olay one that has the soap and oton built in on the blade part so you don’t need to use shaving cream or anything. This has CHANGED  my LIFE.
If you have read my other posts, you know I am disabled. If you haven’t read them, I have a plethora of health problems. Fibromyalgia and arthritis  prevent me from being able to bend over without being in a ton of pain.

Because of the pain, (this is gross, I know) I rarely shave my legs anymore…. until I got this razor. Now I can just reach down and shave my legs in the shower without worrying about keeping away from the water because there is no shaving cream for it to wash away. I no longer have to try to prop my leg up on the shower wall (which is very dangerous for me) or try to become a contortionist

to shave my legs.

The lotion/soap stuff on the razor smells sooooo freakin good and leaves my legs silky smooth in one quick pass. I like this so much that I have already bought replacement blades for

the Venus razor.  All the different types of replacement razor heads fit the one handle, so you don’t have to buy a whole new razor if y

ou want to try out the different kinds!

Mini Drugstore Haul-ish Preview

So. I went to the doctor (well, one of my doctors’) today and he gave me a prescription for a different med to try. I stopped by the nearest Walgreens, cuz that’s where I fill my prescriptions. The girl at the pharmacy counter told me it was going to be about an hour before I could pick the prescription up. Ok, I will wait. You know what happens next. Yep… so here they are:

image

On the left- Tweezerman LTD slant tweezers in…. breast cancer pink!!! Even has the little ribbons all over it! I couldn’t resist, especially since I have heard other people’s opinions of the regular Tweezerman tweezers. And… it was on SALE!

Next, I got the Goody Simple Styles spin pin pack in “Dark Hair”. I’ve been curious about these, but not $8 curious. These were 75% off.

Then, the Sally Hansen Vita B Lip Moisturizer in “Clear, Berry”. I got this because it is new, my lips were very chapped, and it was…. on SALE! I have already opened and tried this. It tastes AWFUL. It reminds me of the way chlorine water from a swimming pool tasted when I was a kid and got dunked… blech. It feels ok, kind of waxy. I’m glad I paid around a dollar for this because I don’t care for it.

On to the hand soap. This is Studio 35’s Limited Edition Butter Shortbread Liquid Hand Soap. I got this because it smells sooooo good. And it was a dollar.

On the bottom… from Studio 35, again, 50 clasp-free ponytail holders. I am constantly losing these things, and for $2.49 for 50 of them… no brainer. The colors, if you can’t see them well in the pic above, are white, pink, red, orange, turquoise, purple, navy, ad black. They are quite stretchy and seem strong enough.

Ok, here is what you have been waiting for. At the top- a palate of eyeshadows!!! This is “Sultry & Neutrals” by Profusion. I bought this for $4.99. I have had VERY good luck with Profusion lately. This palette looks like it might be trying to dupe the “Naked” palettes. I did buy a similar one, in “Midnight Fever” a few weeks ago and LOVE it. I will do reiews on both once I have tried the new one out.

Anyway, there are 10 eyeshadows in this nice quality case… it is cardboard (what do you expect for this price), but it is very smooth on the outside. And it has magnetic closure!!! There is also a mirror on the lid when you open the flap up. It comes with a generic applicator, but also a black eyeliner.  I will post a pic at the bottom of the two palettes together.

On the left is another Profusion gem. These are the “Color Canvas” collection. I have found them in 3 different shades. I grabbed this one because it was the only one left. If you ever see these anywhere,  BUY THEM. They are $1.99 and are soooo very pigmented. They have 3 large eyeshadow pans and 7 smaller ones, but you are getting a LOT of product in there. Super amazing quality. This palette has different shimmery colors, but the other two I have are completely different. They are all great. I will review them soon also.

And last… I saw this EOS “Alice in Wonderland” lip balm gift pack. There is “Watermelon Wonderland”, “Sweet Vanilla Nonsense”, and “Blueberry Potion”. Who can resist that? Especially…. ON SALE!!!

Let me know if you have tried any of these! If so, what did you think? Have you ever heard of or seen the Profusion palettes before?

Addercatter’s November 2012 Birchbox Review Continues…

image

So. After putting this on and smelling it for about an hour now, I got hungry for something sweet. I raided my son’s box of pre-packaged brownies and took the last one… oops…

Anyway, this is the Whipped Shea Butter Body Cream in “banana” by Shea Terra Organics. Let me begin by saying that I was dreading to try this stuff. I find the “banana” scent from anything other than an actual banana to be repulsive. And when I opened the cute little 1 oz jar, there it was. And I was thinking “I should have waited to take my shower because I am going to have to wash this off immediately after I try it”.

I threw caution to the wind and slathered some on my freshly shaved legs… the furthest body parts from my nose. The product itself is thick and luxurious- feeling. This stuff felt like it just melted into my skin, leaving my legs super soft and silky. I had a bit left on my hand, so I rubbed my hands together and enjoyed the sensation while holding my breath.

Yes, I eventually had to breathe, and it was a big breath because I was about to pass out from holding it for so long. Guess what! My hands smelled like buttercream frosting. I am not kidding. It smelled sooooo heavenly that I actually considered licking my hand. Yes, it smells THAT good on my skin. There was not even the slightest trace of that fake banana scent left. Simply amazing!

For a full sized product, would I pay $22? To smell like buttercream frosting for hours (and the scent has literally lasted hours so far)…. YES! I will sacrifice my nose for a few minutes of product application to experience this stuff every friggin day! I’m wondering if it smells like this on everyone, or just me, but… who cares!!! I smell like frosting!!!

Ok, I think this deserves to be a post on it’s own. How about you? Kat

Addercatter’s November 2012 Birchbox Review

image

So. Here it is, my very first review. This is also my very first Birchbox! I was so excited when I received this box of goodies. I wish I could get over my nervousness of being on camera. What fun it would be to post the actual “opening of the box” on YouTube! Eh. Anyway, I can’t remember in which order I took these out of the box so I will just randomly begin.

image

The first thing I will… preview I guess…. will be this gorgeous nail polish. It is “Put a Pin in It” by Color Club and is a pretty, shimmery rose-gold color. It is much more pinkish than it looks in this picture. I will have to come back to this at a later time because, despite my anxiousness to paint this all over my nails, I could NOT get the darned thing open. I guess I will have my husband or son open it for me tomorrow 😦

image

Next there were two packets of Kerastase Chroma Riche hair cream. The product description card states that it is “designed to hydrate color-treated or dry strands”. There were no directions on the packets, only a short description in many languages and the English was very limited. I used it as I would a deep conditioning treatment while I took a shower and shaved my legs, killing two birds with one stone (razor review for Vox Box in a later post).

The product came out thick and saturated my long hair easily with only one packet. (I had the second with me just in case). My hair is normally dry, and left to it’s own devices can become very frizzy  and tangly.  This product took the tangles right out as I applied it and my hair has since air-dried and is soft. I am noticing it is less frizzy than it normally would have been without this product. I did not apply any other product, just let my hair dry on it’s own.

I did NOT like the smell of this stuff. To me, it smells like the baby aspirin my mom used to disolve in a teaspoon of water and make me swallow when I was a child. Blech. Luckily, my AG xtramoist shampoo prevailed. Is this stuff worth $61 for a “full size” product? No. I have gotten the same results from much cheaper products that are on the other side of the scent spectrum for me. However, that is only my opinion.

I am going to split this Birchbox review into a couple of sections because I am doing this on my new ASus tablet and haven’t figured out a way to save as I go. Yet.

Ok, what do you think so far? Am I doing ok with the whole review thing? Am I being too wordy? Give me all your thoughts please. Ok, while you read this, I will start on section 2! Kat

Birchbox and Vox Box Reviews Being Published Tonight!!!

So. I have finally had a chance to use and/or experience each of the items that came in my November Birchbox and Cosmo Vox Box from Influenster. I am going to start writing the reviews and uploading pics in a few minutes, hopefully all will get published tonight. While I am doing that, and if you have NO IDEA what I’m talking about, go check out Influenster and Birchbox.
They are the sites that sent me the items I will be reviewing!

If you do know what I’m talking about, here’s a question that maybe you will answer, and maybe you won’t. Which should I post first, Birchbox or Vox Box? Another question… should I do one post for all the Birchbox items and one post for all the Vox Box items, or should I break them up a little, so there won’t be soooo much to read in each post? Let me know…. I’m gonna get started! Kat
